Új sablon: {{jogvedett mu}}

Sziasztok!

Létrehoztam egy új sablont: {{jogvedett mu}}. A neve biztos lehetne jobb is, a robotokkal való könnyebb kezelhetőség végett írtam ékezet nélkül. Arra való, hogy a még jogvédett, de ismert időpontban közkinccsé váló lapokat listázzunk vele. Meg kell adni a szerző/fordító halálának időpontját első paraméterként (értelemszerűen amelyik későb halt meg), és a mű címét másodikként.

A sablon egyelőre annyit tesz, hogy a megfelelő időpontban az addig nem linkként kiírt címet linkké változtatja. Amit még szeretnék megcsinálni:

• a szabaddá válás szerint kategorizálni a lapokat (sok művel rendelkező szerzőknél eddig sem volt probléma, de ha valakinek csak néhány fordítása van, az lehet, hogy elkallódik)
• robottal törölni a régi sablonokat (ha a sablon lejárt és az általa hivatkozott lapot létrehozták, akkor törölhető, meg akkor is, ha már legalább 2 éve lejárt)

Van ötlete valakinek még valamilyen funkcióra? (Vagy haszontalan az egész, és csináljuk inkáb kézzel? :)

Jó ez és még fejleszthető pl. több szerzős vagy nem ismert szerzőjű művek esetére. Pl. a védelmi időt szerzőtársak esetében az utoljára elhunyt szerzőtárs halálát követő év első napjától kell számítani, az együttesen létrehozott mű védelmi ideje pedig a mű első nyilvánosságra hozatalát követő év első napjától számított hetven év. A kategorizálás külön hasznos, így szépen lehet majd listázni, hogy az adott évben kinek a műveire vonatkozóan járt le a védelmi idő. Samat 2010. január 18., 19:46 (CET)

Mi a teendő?

Nem néztem utána az útmutatókban, ha van ott valami válasz-féle, akkor is megkérdezem: Azok a magyar költők, pl. Csokonai Vitéz Mihály és Janus Pannonius, (stb.) akik más nyelven is írtak (latinul, stb.), nem magyar nyelvű művei részei-e a magyar wikiforrásnak, s ha igen, hol találok hozzá kategóriákat? Hűha. Nem tudom. Az útmutatókat nagyrészt én fordítottam le, és nem emlékszem ilyesmire, de lehet, hogy csak elfelejtettem azóta. Szerintem úgy lenne a legjobb, ha a más nyelven írt műveik a költőknek a megfelelő idegen nyelvű Wikiforrásra kerülnének fel, és áthivatkoznánk oda ("A költő üzbég nyelvű versei itt és itt találhatóak.", értelemszerűen linkesítve, vagy akár fel is lehet őket sorolni). ha erre adjuk a fejünket, akkor célszerű lehet segítséget kérni egy, az adott nyelvet beszélő szerkesztőtől (a Wikipédián szerintem találunk, ha köztünk nincs). --FBöbe☂ 2010. január 2., 18:29 (CET)

Véletlenül sem ellentmondva: meg kellene keresnünk vagy alkotnunk egy missziós nyilatkozatot (corporate mission), amelyben a magunk részére megfogalmaznánk: mit tartunk a magyar Wikiforrás céljának és feladatainak. Az alapján az ilyen nehéz, új kérdések könnyebben megválaszolhatók volnának.

Az én személyes, szerény véleményem ezügyben az, hogy a magyar Wikiforrásnak két fő célja van:

1. a magyar nyelven elérhető forrásszövegek gyűjtése, szépirodalmi és szakmai egyaránt;
2. a magyar alkotók által létrehozott művek minél teljesebb körű bemutatása.

A második szerint tehát számomra idevaló volna pl. Csokonai Vitéz verseinek üzbég fordítása is, de nem foglalkoznék Shakespeare moldáv nyelvű szonettjeivel. Food for thought. --Burumbátor ^{privát admin} 2010. január 3., 11:30 (CET)

Egyetértek, hogy Lope de Vega angol nyelről magyarra történő limerick átültetései ne legyenek a magyar wikiforrás centruma. Janus Pannonius valószínű, hogy kevés 70 évnél régebbi fordításban létezik, ezeknek a költőknek a műfordításai pedig túl "frissek" Berczeli A. Wikiforrásunk helyzete a nagyvilágban

E statisztika alapján látható, hogy a kattintás alapján számolt statisztikában masszívan a 14. helyen vagyunk, ez adja a wikiforrások rangsorolásának az alapját. Minél többet kattintanak ránk, annál feljebb megyünk a ranglistán.

Ha azonban jobban megnézzük, a többi nyelvhez viszonyított fejlődésünk az elmúlt évben a 6. helyre tesz bennünket, alázzuk a portugálokat vagy a lengyeleket, a törökök mindenképpen mögöttünk vannak.

Azt hiszem ez nem rossz eredmény, tekintettel arra, hogy 4-5 aktív szerkesztő csinálja a magyar Wikiforrást és a népszerűsítésre már végképp nem futhatja az erejükből.

A Wikimédia Magyarország Egyesület ajánlata

Sziasztok!

Mint már hírt adtunk róla, létrejött és működik egy egyesület, aminek elsődleges célja a magyar Wikimédia-projektek, köztük a Wikiforrás segítése, támogatása. Szeretnénk valahogy elősegíteni a projekt fejlődését és fejlesztését, és úgy gondoltuk, hogy legjobb, ha titeket, a rendszeresen szerkesztő wikikönyvtárosokat kérdezzük meg arról, hogyan tudnánk leghatékonyabban elérni ezt. Tudom, hogy a pénz nem boldogít, de ha ez segíti a projektet, akkor nem haszontalan :). A kérdés az, hogyan tudná az egyesület segíteni a Wikiforrás fejlődését?

• Eszközökkel, amik könnyebbé teszik a munkát (szkenner, karakterfelismerő szoftver, ?)
• Technikai és műszaki támogatás (botok futtatása, adatbázis-elemzések, más toolszerveres feladatok; felülettel, szerkesztéssel kapcsolatos műszaki problémák megoldása, segédeszközök fejlesztése, beüzemelése).
• Szerkesztői találkozókkal, ahol könnyebb megbeszélni a vitatott kérdéseket, ütemtervet a következő időszak feladataira stb.
• Kapcsolat hasonló célokkal vagy feladatokkal rendelkező szervezetekkel, könyvtárakkal stb.
• Reklámkampány, mely segít új szerkesztők elérésében.

Minden fentiekkel kapcsolatos igényt, további ötletet szívesen veszünk, és lehetőségeink függvényében meg is valósítjuk. Samat 2010. január 18., 20:51 (CET)

Szia Samat! A Wikiforrás maroknyi közössége nevében köszönjük a felajánlást! A kollégák bizonyosan elő fognak állni ötletekkel, én a magam részéről az utolsó javasolt pontba, a reklámkampány gondolatába kapaszkodnék bele. Jó volna valami szakembernek elgondolkodni azon, hogy az általad említett,. alapvetően szerkesztőszerző kampány mellett hogyan lehetne magát a Wikiforrást reklámozni, mint igen komoly forrásgyűjteményt? Annyi és olyan szöveg van már itt felhalmozva, hogy egy középiskolás röhögve kijárhatja a négy osztályt anélkül, hogy költséges könyvekre költené a pénzét. A Wikipédia rendkívül ismert honlap, a Wikiforrás meg szinte alig. Reklámozni kellene magunkat, mindenki hasznára.

A Wikiforrás számára is fontos, hogy mennyi oldalletöltést regisztrál a statisztikai szoftver, ez alapján rangsorolják a forrás különböző nyelvű projektjeit. Tehát: mindenkinek jó lenne, ha nagyobb aktivitással használnának bennünket.

Kategórák-iw

Tudom, hogy kevesen vagytok itt, én sem gyakran nézek be. Amikor van időm, szeretném apránként bővíteni a kategóriákat és hiányolom az interwikiket is. Rögtön a Kategória:Kategóriák-nál megakadtam. Nem értem, miért van a főkategóriában a Kategória:Szövegek is, meg a Kategória:Irodalom, egymás mellett. A Kategória:Irodalom-ban lévő szövegek is – szövegek… Biztos valamit nem értek. És a főkategória alatt a többi idegen nyelvű Wikiforrásban sehol nem találom ezt a kategóriát, így nem tudok hozzá interwikit tenni.

Egy kis történelem

Én 2007. november 16-án kezdtem.

2008 szeptember 14: 5 000 lap volt kész.

Azóta az addig készült sok jogsértő lapot Burumbátorral kigyomláltuk, most kerekítve 18 000 lapnál tartunk.

Burumbátor az általam kezdeményezett kategóriákat megcsinálta, így pl.:a szonettek, ódák, novellák számát is követni lehet.

Ennyi lapnál már a Te munkád következhet, 2006 óta kiforrott, hogy milyen szövegek vannak, tedd meg amit tudsz!

Szakértelem nélkül végeztek a pionírok rengeteg munkát, a hibák mára kiderültek, de munkájukat ez nem kissebbíti.

Műfaji problámák lehetnek, hiszen csak Karinthy 20-30 prózai, stb. műfajt képvisel: karcolat, kroki, humoreszk, kabaré-jelenet, stb.

Valójában műkedvelőként a verses műfajok elválasztása, kiválogatása a szonetteknél könnyű, de rájönni forrás nélkül, hogy melyik mű elégia (hacsak a címében benne van...) nem egyszerű.

Én magam köszönök minden kategóriát, de könnyen elérhetővé kellene tenni, mert abba a dzsungelbe most én nem merészkedem, mert már eltévedtem benne, körbe mentem és oda-vissza.

Egy sima abc- szerinti lista mindenkinek segítene!

• Egy pillanatra sem vontam/vonom kétségbe a pionírok (és a nem-pionírok) érdemeit. Csak az eddig kialakított rendszer szeretném átlátni, hogy ne összekutyuljam, hanem bővítsem, jobban használhatóvá tegyem. De akkor majd csinálom, amit tudok. Eyébként amit eddig csináltál, nagyra értékelem, de hidd el, a Világirodalmi Lexikonban a polcomon hamarabb megtalálok akármit, mint ebben a listában : Speciális:Kategóriák

Hiszen Te is feltetted a kérdést itt: Kategórák-iw, hogy, Rögtön a Kategória:Kategóriák-nál megakadtam. , és rendbe akarod tenni. Nekem is csak ilyesmi bajom van, tehát egy új szövegnél, műfaji kategóriát nehezen találok az egybeöntött ...századi, szerzői,stb... több mint ezer kategóriában.

Természetes dolog, hogy a kategóriák előbb-utóbb túlduzzadnak, már-már kezelhetetlenné válnak, nem töltik be funkciójukat. Ilyenkor kell elgondolkodni a további krakkoláson és azon, hogy olyan alkategóriákat hozzunk létre, amelyek hosszú időn át szolgálják a felhasználók érdekeit.

Tehát nincs sértődés, vagy szerzett jogok emlegetése, hanem a funkcionalitás minél magasabb szintű biztosítása a cél. Ami ebbe az irányba mutat (és megy), azt én nagyon támogatom, ami akadályoz, azzal szembe fogok menni.

Vadaro nagyszerű szerkesztő, évek tapasztalata mondatja velem, hogy amit mond, arra érdemes odafigyelni. Meg is lehet (és kell) vitatni dolgokat, abból lesz a mindenki számára elfogadható és egyben előrevivő megoldás.

A kategóriák szerkezetét az "őskorban" a következőképp találtuk/tam/ták ki. A szövegeket berámoltuk az Irodalom nevű kategóriába, a szerzőket a Szerzők kategóriába. Mikor sok lap lett mindkettőben, alkategóriákra osztottuk őket. A szerzők kategóriájában szerintem elég jó rend lett, azzal nincs gond.

Témánként:

• ábécés kategórialista: az összes kategória ábécés listáján nyilván nem lehet kiigazodni, mert túl hosszú. A kategóriák szaporodása pedig szükségszerű, ha a cikkek is szaporodnak és nem akarunk giga-kategóriákat.
• megtalálhatatlan kategóriák: mivel az ábécés lista nem működőképes, a kategóriák kategorizálásával lehet segíteni a megtalálásukat. Ezen a téren tényleg olyan rossz a helyzet? A fent említett probléma megoldása az, hogy műfaji kategóriát nem a teljes listában kell keresni, hanem a Kategória:Szövegek műfaj szerint kategóriában. (Most úgy érzem, hogy feltaláltam a spanyolviaszt. Nekem eddig is annyira nyilvánvaló volt, hogy ott célszerű keresni. Honnét kéne a később idetévedt szerkesztőknek kitalálni, hogy mit hol találnak?)
• Kategória:Irodalom vs. Kategória:Szövegek: a kettő nem azonos. Az első a szépirodalmi szövegeket gyűjti csak. Az utóbbiban kéne az előbbinek helyet találni. Azért nem raktam bele, mert én nem találtam meg a pontos helyét. A Kategória:Szövegek belső alapstruktúrája szerintem működőképes, az maradhatna, de biztos igényel némi átfésülést az összekeveredett kategóriák javítására.
• kategória-interwikik: szerintem hasznos és fontos úgy fejleszteni és alakítani a kategóriarendszert, hogy össze lehessen hozni a többi Wikiforrás kategóriáival. Mindenki így gondolja? (Nekem eddig nem úgy tűnt, hogy ez mindenkinek fontos szempont, de ha mégis, annak csak örülök.)

Utsó előttire: Valóban nem azonos. Vannak átfedések, de az nem baj, egyáltalán: semmi nem "baj"! Én csak kérdeztem. És értem, hogy van némi bizonytalanság az egészben, persze hogy van. Na és? Ami rossz, javítható, ami nincs, megírható.

Az utsóra: A főbb kategóriákból amit lehet, nem ártana iw-ekkel kiegészíteni, de amennyire én beleszagoltam, soknál nem lehet. Pl.az en-ben nem találtam sem Szövegek szerzők szerint, sem Szövegek fordítók szerint kat.-ot, viszont van Szövegek szerzőkről (ami a hu-ban nincs).

Amikor benéztem ide, én csak orosz szerzők műveit kerestem, illetve 2-3 novella szövegét föltettem. Hogy az orosz eredetit lássam, átugrottam volna a ru azonos kategóriájára. Ekkor tűnt fel, hogy nincs iw. Megnéztem a főkategóriában a Szövegek-et, ahhoz sem volt iw, ugyanitt az Irodalom-hoz sem. Végül az orosz Wikiforrásban kutakodva (szereplő nevét cirillel beírva stb.) megtaláltam a novella orosz megfelelőjét és beírtam a lapra az iw-t, ezt megtettem még néhány lappal. Nem történt más, csak használni akartam a Wikiforrást. Azután valamit keresni akartam téma szerint, nem találtam kat-ot, erre megcsináltam, stb. - Vadaro 2010. február 12., 23:10 (CET)

A Szövegek szerzők szerint és a Szövegek fordítók szerint automatikusan generált kategóriákat tartalmaznak. A céljuk az, hogy legyen automatikus ábécés lista az egy szerzőhöz tartozó művekről. Aztán valahova kellett rakni őket, így kerültek a Szövegek kategóriába. De most rohanok, mert elkésem. FBöbe☂ 2010. február 23., 12:12 (CET)

Statisztika

Ajánlom a figyelmetekbe ezt a táblázatot: [1]. Látható, hogy a magyar Wikiforrás stabilan a 14. helyen áll, és az előttünk állók csak azért vannak ott, mert nagyobb a laplekérések száma... • Azt hiszem, a legfontosabb: itt is több "állandó" szerkesztőre lenne szükség, vagy legalább olyanokra, akik a WP-ból néha ide is "átdolgoznak". Nehezen tudom elképzelni, hogy ez egy reklámkampánnyal megoldható. Szkennert, bot-okat enélkül ki üzemeltessen? Az egyesület alig egy éves (tagja vagyok), és ha annyit meg tud tenni, hogy a tervbe vett néhány előadásán a Wikiforrás lehetőségeire is érdemben felhívja a figyelmet, már az is valami. - Vadaro 2010. február 12., 23:33 (CET)

Hm. A testvérprojekt-sablonok is hasznosak. Lehetne valami híresztelést csapni a Wikipédián ezügyben. Találomra megnéztem 10 szerző lapját, ebből 2-n volt oda-vissza testvérprojekt sablon, pedig még legalább 4-en lehetett volna (további 4 lapon innét a WP-re mutató link se volt, az a mi sarunk). Az is gáz, hogy 8 fajta wikiforrás-sablon van, nem is egységes kinézetűek (az egyiken ilyen logó, a másikon olyan). A mezei wikipédisták hogy igazodnak ki ezek között? Valóban meg kellene valakinek csinálni, a felsorolt hiányosságokat pótolni kellene. A pédiára mutató sablonokkal én végeztem, ha valami kimaradt, csinálja meg az, aki talál még ilyet. Akkor hamarabb lesz 100%-os. Én amihez értek, igyekszem azonnal pótolni, hamarabb van, mintha üzengetnék.

Dupla cikk

Az orosz szerzőkkel foglalkozva dupla cikket találtam:

• Szerző:Alexandr Blok és verse: Szürke szelíd nap volt (hosszú "í").
• Szerző:Alekszandr Alekszandrovics Blok és verse: Szürke szelid nap volt... (rövid "i" és három pont).

A szerzői lapok közül az elsőt törölni kéne (a nevet "ksz"-szel írjuk). A két vers közül is az egyiket, de mivel nincs feltüntetve link a forrásra, nem tudom eldönteni, hogy melyiket. - Vadaro 2010. február 24., 00:01 (CET)

Nem vetettem össze betűről betűre a két szöveget, de látható, hogy 1988-ban í-t írtak (a versnél és a tartalomjegyzékben is) tehát bármelyik nyomtatott verzió hibás lehet. A PESTI HIRLAP-osat hagynám meg, a vitalapon az újabbkori változattal. Nincs irányelv, de már csináltam ilyent, amikor durva eltérések voltak két neves szerkesztő nyomtatott munkájában! Amint ebből a táblázatból kiböngészhető, 2010 februárjában a 14-ről az előkelő 13. helyre léptünk előre, megelőzvén a cseheket masszív 4000 lekérdezéssel egy hónapban. Ha megnézzük, milyen nyelvekkel előznek bennünket, látható, hogy legkevesebb 3x annyian beszélik az előttünk álló nyelveket, mint mi... Eredeti helyett mai helyesírással?

Ha egy szöveget régi anyagból másolok át (pl. A csizmadia és az ördög‎), megtehetem-e, hogy az eredeti helyesírást maival cserélem fel? Ilyen esetben a Szöveginfo "Megjegyzés" rovatában jelezném, hogy maira változtattam. (Csakis prózai szövegben; a versben egy ékezet megváltoztatása is megbillentheti a ritmust, a verselést.) Van akinél meghagytak ilyet, helyesen: Phoebus, - máshol ez Főbusz. Hogy a korabeli, (mai) szerkesztő, nyomda, fordító hibája, nem tudom. A szerző, fordító eredeti munkáját rakjuk ide, mert a MEK és a mai kiadások a szerkesztők kénye - kedve - izlése(?) szerint olvashatók. A MEK azt írja egy-egy gyüjteményre: összes versei (művei). És a harmada van fenn! SILÁNYAN! Azért fizettek, mi csináljuk jól - INGYEN!

The work Eskimo Life by Norwegian polar explorer Fridtjof Nansen was translated to Hungarian, Az Eszkimók között (1922), and has been digitized by Norway's national library. The PDF can be downloaded and we could proofread it in Wikisource. This would be fun, because Wikisource already has the same work in Norwegian, Swedish, and English. However, the translator is Telekes Béla (1873–1960) and the book also contains a Nansen biography (long preface) by Halász Gyula (1881–1947). None of these have been dead for 70+ years, so I suppose this translation is still under copyright? 2010 Fundraising Is Almost Here

Hello Wikimedians, My name is Sam Chapman and I am working for the Wikimedia Foundation during the 2010 Fundraiser. My job is to be the liaison between your community and the Foundation. This year's fundraiser is intended to be a collaborative and global effort; we recognize that banner messages which may perform well in the United States don't necessarily translate well, or appeal to international audiences.

I'm contacting you as I am currently looking for translators who are willing to contribute to this project by helping translate and localize messages into different languages and suggesting messages that would appeal to your readers on the Fundraising Meta Page. Call for image filter referendum

The Wikimedia Foundation, at the direction of the Board of Trustees, will be holding a vote to determine whether members of the community support the creation and usage of an opt-in personal image filter, which would allow readers to voluntarily screen particular types of images strictly for their own account.

Further details and educational materials will be available shortly. The referendum is scheduled for 12-27 August, 2011, and will be conducted on servers hosted by a neutral third party. Announcing Wikipedia 1.19 beta

Wikimedia Foundation is getting ready to push out 1.19 to all the WMF-hosted wikis. As we finish wrapping up our code review, you can test the new version right now on beta.wmflabs.org. For more information, please read the release notes or the start of the final announcement.

The following are the areas that you will probably be most interested in:

• Faster loading of javascript files makes dependency tracking more important.
• New common*.css files usable by skins instead of having to copy piles of generic styles from MonoBook or Vector's css.
• The default user signature now contains a talk link in addition to the user link.
• Searching blocked usernames in block log is now clearer.
• Better timezone recognition in user preferences.
• Improved diff readability for colorblind people.
• The interwiki links table can now be accessed also when the interwiki cache is used (used in the API and the Interwiki extension).
• More gender support (for instance in logs and user lists).
• Language converter improved, e.g. it now works depending on the page content language.
• Time and number-formatting magic words also now depend on the page content language.
• Bidirectional support further improved after 1.18.

Report any problems on the labs beta wiki and we'll work to address them before they software is released to the production wikis.

Wsexport: an automatic export tool for Wikisource

An export tool for Wikisource books, Wsexport, is currently in active development. It is a tool for exporting Wikisource's texts in EPUB, ODT and other file formats. It was created for French Wikisource, but it's also available for the other Wikisource subdomains. It can be used directly from its page on Toolserver.org (for texts in all languages, use "www" for oldwikisource), or browsing http://wsexport.fr.nf (currently only for French Wikisource's texts).

In order to work, the tool need some configuration from your Wikisource subdomain, This page explains how to do it. Currently French, Italian, English, and German Wikisource does it.

Update on IPv6

The Wikimedia Foundation is planning to do limited testing of IPv6 on June 2-3. If there are not too many problems, we may fully enable IPv6 on World IPv6 day (June 6), and keep it enabled.

What this means for your project:

• At least on June 2-3, 2012, you may see a small number of edits from IPv6 addresses, which are in the form "2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334". See e.g. w:en:IPv6 address. These addresses should behave like any other IP address: You can leave messages on their talk pages; you can track their contributions; you can block them. (See the full version of this announcement for notes on range blocks.)

• In the mid term, some user scripts and tools will need to be adapted for IPv6.

• We suspect that IPv6 usage is going to be very low initially, meaning that abuse should be manageable, and we will assist in the monitoring of the situation.

As many of you are aware, the Wikimedia Board of Trustees recently initiated important changes in the way that money is being distributed within the Wikimedia movement. As part of this, a new community-led "Funds Dissemination Committee" (FDC) is currently being set up. Already in 2012-13, its recommendations will guide the decisions about the distribution of over 10 million US dollars among the Foundation, chapters and other eligible entities.

Wikidata is getting close to a first roll-out

As some of you might already have heard Wikimedia Deutschland is working on a new Wikimedia project. It is called m:Wikidata. The goal of Wikidata is to become a central data repository for the Wikipedias, its sister projects and the world. In the future it will hold data like the number of inhabitants of a country, the date of birth of a famous person or the length of a river. These can then be used in all Wikimedia projects and outside of them.

The project is divided into three phases and "we are getting close to roll-out the first phase". The phases are:

1. language links in the Wikipedias (making it possible to store the links between the language editions of an article just once in Wikidata instead of in each linked article)
2. infoboxes (making it possible to store the data that is currently in infoboxes in one central place and share the data)
3. lists (making it possible to create lists and similar things based on queries to Wikidata so they update automatically when new data is added or modified)

It'd be great if you could join us, test the demo version, provide feedback and take part in the development of Wikidata. You can find all the relevant information including an FAQ and sign-up links for our on-wiki newsletter on the Wikidata page on Meta.

Fundraising localization: volunteers from outside the USA needed

Hello All,

The Wikimedia Foundation's Fundraising team have begun our 'User Experience' project, with the goal of understanding the donation experience in different countries outside the USA and enhancing the localization of our donation pages. I am searching for volunteers to spend 30 minutes on a Skype chat with me, reviewing their own country's donation pages. It will be done on a 'usability' format (I will ask you to read the text and go through the donation flow) and will be asking your feedback in the meanwhile.

The only pre-requisite is for the volunteer to actually live in the country and to have access to at least one donation method that we offer for that country (mainly credit/debit card, but also real-time banking like IDEAL, E-wallets, etc...) so we can do a live test and see if the donation goes through. All volunteers will be reimbursed of the donations that eventually succeed (and they will be low amounts, like 1-2 dollars)

By helping us you are actually helping thousands of people to support our mission of free knowledge across the world. We have talked to many different people in different countries and their feedback has helped us immensely in restructuring our pages. Wikimedia sites to move to primary data center in Ashburn, Virginia. Read-only mode expected.

This is intended to improve the technical performance and reliability of all Wikimedia sites, including this wiki. There is a new request for comment on Meta-Wiki concerning the removal of administrative rights from long-term inactive Wikimedians. Generally, this proposal from stewards would apply to wikis without an administrators' review process.

We are also compiling a list of projects with procedures for removing inactive administrators on the talk page of the request for comment. Feel free to add your project(s) to the list if you have a policy on administrator inactivity.

All input is appreciated. The discussion may close as soon as 21 May 2013 (2013-05-21), but this will be extended if needed.

Wikisource vision development: News April 2013

Dear Wikisourcerors, it has been almost a month since we have started with the Elaborate Wikisource strategic vision grant and we would like to share some news with you:

• The Wikisource vision development pages are open to discussion. Specially important: what do you think of creating together an international Wikisource User Group?
• In case some Wikisources want to use Wikidata to store book metadata and share it with Commons, we have started Wikidata:Books task force to decide which properties are needed. We think it's very important to discuss book metadata there, both for Wikisource and for all other projects.
• We also started some relevant Requests for Comments for Wikisource:
  • Interproject links interface: how can we improve sister projects visibility?
  • Musical score transcription project proposal: now that Extension:Score allows musical scores both in Wikipedia and in Wikisource (example 1, example 2), we need to define where we want music sheets to be hosted.
• We are following and promoting a Google Summer of Code project for Wikisource: Improve support for book structures. We are also helping to convert the UploadWizard customisation for books proposal into another GSoC.
• First contacts have been initiated with Open Library, Internet Archive and Open Knowledge Foundation for possible partnerships. Please check out this page.

And that's it for now! During the month of May, we (Aubrey and Micru) would like to organize at least one Skype or Google Hangout meeting for the users of each one of the 10 biggest wikisources plus another one or two for the other languages (depending on interest). We want to know your opinion on what Wikisource should become in the next years.

The default position of the "edit" link in page section headers is going to change soon. The "edit" link will be positioned adjacent to the page header text rather than floating opposite it.

Section edit links will be to the immediate right of section titles, instead of on the far right. If you're an editor of one of the wikis which already implemented this change, nothing will substantially change for you; however, scripts and gadgets depending on the previous implementation of section edit links will have to be adjusted to continue working; however, nothing else should break even if they are not updated in time.

Ideas to do this all the way to 2009 at least. It is often difficult to track which of several potential section edit links on the far right is associated with the correct section, and many readers and anonymous or new editors may even be failing to notice section edit links at all, since they read section titles, which are far away from the links.

• A software update will perhaps result in temporary issues with images. Please report any problems you notice. [9]
• MediaWiki recognizes links in twelve new schemes. Users can now link to SSH, XMPP and Bitcoin directly from wikicode. [10]
• VisualEditor was added to all content namespaces on mediawiki.org on May 20. [11]
• A new extension ("TemplateData") was added to all Wikipedia sites on May 20. It will allow a future version of VisualEditor to edit templates. [12]
• New sites: Greek Wikivoyage and Venetian Wiktionary joined the Wikimedia family last week; the total number of project wikis is now 794. [13] [14]
• The logo of 18 Wikipedias was changed to version 2.0 in a third group of updates. [15]
• The UploadWizard on Commons now shows links to the old upload form in 55 languages (bug 33513). [16]

Future software changes

• The next version of MediaWiki (version 1.22/wmf5) will be added to Wikimedia sites starting on May 27. [17]
• An updated version of Notifications, with new features and fewer bugs, will be added to the English Wikipedia on May 23. [18]
• The final version of the "single user login" (which allows people to use the same username on different Wikimedia wikis) is moved to August 2013. The software will automatically rename some usernames. [19]
• A new discussion system for MediaWiki, called "Flow", is under development. Wikimedia designers need your help to inform other users, test the prototype and discuss the interface. [20].

Pywikipedia is migrating to git

Pywikipedia is migrating to Git so after July 26, SVN checkouts won't be updated If you're using Pywikipedia you have to switch to git, otherwise you will use out-dated framework and your bot might not work properly. Please join the consultation about the Community logo that represents Meta-Wiki: m:Community Logo/Request for consultation.

This community consultation was commenced on September 24. The following day, two individuals filed a legal opposition against the registration of the Community logo.

The question is whether the Wikimedia Foundation should seek a collective membership mark with respect to this logo or abandon its registration and protection of the trademark.

We want to make sure that everyone get a chance to speak up so that we can get clear direction from the community. We would therefore really appreciate the community's help in translating this announcement from English so that everyone is able to understand it.

Introducting Beta Features

We would like to let you know about Beta Features, a new program from the Wikimedia Foundation that lets you try out new features before they are released for everyone.

Think of it as a digital laboratory where community members can preview upcoming software and give feedback to help improve them. This special preference page lets designers and engineers experiment with new features on a broad scale, but in a way that's not disruptive.

Beta Features is now ready for testing on MediaWiki.org. It will also be released on Wikimedia Commons and MetaWiki this Thursday, 7 November. Based on test results, the plan is to release it on all wikis worldwide on 21 November, 2013.

Here are the first features you can test this week:

• Media Viewer — view images in large size or full screen
• VisualEditor Formulæ (for wikis with VisualEditor) — edit algebra or equations on your pages
• Typography Refresh — make text more readable (coming Thursday)

Would you like to try out Beta Features now? After you log in on MediaWiki.org, a small 'Beta' link will appear next to your 'Preferences'. Click on it to see features you can test, check the ones you want, then click 'Save'. Learn more on the Beta Features page.

Reminder: Wikidata coming on January 14th

(This is a message to all Wikisource editions. Sorry for writing in English. I hope someone can translate this for me on the non-English editions.)

Hi!

I am Wikidata's product manager. If you are unfamilar with Wikidata please have a look at d:Q3107329 for example.

As you might already have heard Wikisource will be the fourth project supported by Wikidata after Wikipedia, Wikivoyage and Commons. We are currently planning this for January 14th. From this point on you will be able to handle the links between projects in Wikidata. This means you will only have to maintain them once instead of having them duplicated in every article. However fear not: the local interwiki links will still continue to work and they will overwrite what comes from Wikidata.

This is the first step of Wikidata supporting Wikisource. In a second step we will enable access to the actual data on Wikidata like biographical data about authors. I do not have a date for that yet however.

The planning is happening at d:Wikidata:Wikisource. We are still looking for some more ambassadors who can help during the process and make sure everything goes smoothly for you. Please add your name to the list at d:Wikidata:Wikisource if you're willing to do this.

Wikidata is here!

Hey everyone :)

As previously announced we have just enabled interwiki links via Wikidata for Wikisource. This means from now on you no longer have to maintain the links in the Wikitext but can maintain them together with the links for Wikipedia, Commons and Wikivoyage on Wikidata. You will still be able to keep them locally though if you want to. Local interwiki links will overwrite the ones from Wikidata. You do not yet have access to the other data on Wikidata like the date of birth of an author. That will come in a future deployment. I will let you know when I have a date for it.

If you have any questions d:Wikidata:Wikisource is a good first step. It also has a list of people familiar with both Wikisource and Wikidata who are able to help you out. That is also a good place for any issues or bugs you encounter.

I'm really excited to welcome you all to Wikidata! I hope it will become a great help for Wikisource.

Request for comment on Commons: Should Wikimedia support MP4 video?

The Wikimedia Foundation's multimedia team seeks community guidance on a proposal to support the MP4 video format. This digital video standard is used widely around the world to record, edit and watch videos on mobile phones, desktop computers and home video devices. It is also known as H.264/MPEG-4 or AVC.

Supporting the MP4 format would make it much easier for our users to view and contribute video on Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects -- and video files could be offered in dual formats on our sites, so we could continue to support current open formats (WebM and Ogg Theora).

However, MP4 is a patent-encumbered format, and using a proprietary format would be a departure from our current practice of only supporting open formats on our sites -- even though the licenses appear to have acceptable legal terms, with only a small fee required.

We would appreciate your guidance on whether or not to support MP4. Our Request for Comments presents views both in favor and against MP4 support, based on opinions we’ve heard in our discussions with community and team members.

Hátha valaki idetéved (mint én is, mert elég régen jártam erre):

Korábban amikor feltöltöttem egy egy új lapot, és utána a vitalapra beírtam a "szöveginfó"-sablont a cikk forrásával, - mentés után a cikk lapján megjelent egy kis dobozban az "Információ erről a lapról" felirat, linkkel a vitalapra. Most is beteszem a vitalapra a sablont, szépen meg is jelenik a doboza a vitalapon, - a cikk lapján viszont nem jelenik meg az "Információ erről a lapról" felirat és link. Így az olvasó nem találja meg a forráshivatkozást, csak ha véletlenül ránéz a vitalapra is. Nem tudom, "műszaki hiba" van-e, vagy valamit én csinálok rosszul. Korábban ilyen gond nem volt. Access to data in Wikidata

(Sorry for writing in English. I hope someone can translate this for me where necessary.)

Not long ago we enabled language links via Wikidata for Wikisource. This seems to have gone rather smoothly. Thanks to everyone who helped! But as you know this was only the start. What is actually more interesting is access to the data in Wikidata like the date of birth of an author or the year a book was published. We have planned this for February 25th (unless any issues arise). You will then be able to use the data in your articles. I hope this will open up a lot of new opportunities for you.

Universal Language Selector will be enabled by default again on this wiki by 21 February 2014

On January 21 2014 the MediaWiki extension Universal Language Selector (ULS) was disabled on this wiki. A new preference was added for logged-in users to turn on ULS. This was done to prevent slow loading of pages due to ULS webfonts, a behaviour that had been observed by the Wikimedia Technical Operations team on some wikis.

We are now ready to enable ULS again. The temporary preference to enable ULS will be removed. A new checkbox has been added to the Language Panel to enable/disable font delivery. This will be unchecked by default for this wiki, but can be selected at any time by the users to enable webfonts. This is an interim solution while we improve the feature of webfonts delivery.

You can now access the data on Wikidata

Hey folks,

We have just enabled data access to Wikidata for Wikisource (except old-wikisource). This means you can now access data like the date of birth of an author or the ISBN of a book. You can do this in two ways. The first one is a parser function. You can use it like {{#property:capital}} or {{#property:P36}}. The second one is Lua. The documentation for that is at mw:Extension:WikibaseClient/Lua

If you have any questions you will find help at d:Wikidata:Wikisource and its talk page.

I hope you'll use this to do some kick-ass things on Wikisource ;-)

Call for project ideas: funding is available for community experiments

Do you have an idea for a project that could improve your community? Individual Engagement Grants from the Wikimedia Foundation help support individuals and small teams to organize experiments for 6 months. You can get funding to try out your idea for online community organizing, outreach, tool-building, or research to help make Wikiforrás better. In March, we’re looking for new project proposals.

Examples of past Individual Engagement Grant projects:

• Organizing social media for Chinese Wikipedia ($350 for materials)
• Improving gadgets for Visual Editor ($4500 for developers)
• Coordinating access to reliable sources for Wikipedians ($7500 for project management, consultants and materials)
• Building community and strategy for Wikisource (€10000 for organizing and travel)

Changes to the default site typography coming soon

This week, the typography on Wikimedia sites will be updated for all readers and editors who use the default "Vector" skin. This change will involve new serif fonts for some headings, small tweaks to body content fonts, text size, text color, and spacing between elements. The schedule is:

• April 1st: non-Wikipedia projects will see this change live
• April 3rd: Wikipedias will see this change live

This change is very similar to the "Typography Update" Beta Feature that has been available on Wikimedia projects since November 2013. After several rounds of testing and with feedback from the community, this Beta Feature will be disabled and successful aspects enabled in the default site appearance. Users who are logged in may still choose to use another skin, or alter their personal CSS, if they prefer a different appearance. Local common CSS styles will also apply as normal, for issues with local styles and scripts that impact all users.

I wanted to let you know that Media Viewer will be released to this wiki in the coming weeks. Media Viewer allows readers of Wikimedia projects to have an enhanced view of files without having to visit the file page, but with more detail than a thumbnail. You can try Media Viewer out now by turning it on in your Beta Features. If you do not enjoy Media Viewer or if it interferes with your work after it is turned on you will be able to disable Media Viewer as well in your preferences. Using only UploadWizard for uploads

Hello! Sorry for writing in English. It was noted that on this wiki upload is not fully functional for users, who will experience a very difficult and/or illegal uploading. In fact, the licenses/copyright tags dropdown is empty, making it hard or impossible to comply with copyright requirements during upload itself.

Presumably, you don't have interest nor energies to have hundreds templates with the now required HTML, even less a local EDP. I propose to have

• local "Fájl feltöltése" restricted to the "adminisztrátorok" group (for emergency uploads) and
• the sidebar point to commons:Special:UploadWizard,

so that you can avoid local maintenance and all users can have a functioning, easy upload interface in their own language. All registered users can upload on Commons and existing files will not be affected.

All this will get done around 2014-07-03.

1. If you disagree with the proposal, just remove your wiki from the list. Remember also to create MediaWiki:Licenses locally with any content (see a simple example), or uploads will be soon disabled anyway by MediaWiki itself (starting in version 1.24wmf11).
2. To make the UploadWizard even better, please tell your experience and ideas on commons:Commons:Upload Wizard feedback.

The Wikimedia Foundation's Multimedia team is happy to announce that Media Viewer was just released on this site today.

Media Viewer displays images in larger size when you click on their thumbnails, to provide a better viewing experience. Users can now view images faster and more clearly, without having to jump to separate pages — and its user interface is more intuitive, offering easy access to full-resolution images and information, with links to the file repository for editing. The tool has been tested extensively across all Wikimedia wikis over the past six months as a Beta Feature and has been released to the largest Wikipedias, all language Wikisources, and the English Wikivoyage already.

If you do not like this feature, you can easily turn it off by clicking on "Disable Media Viewer" at the bottom of the screen, pulling up the information panel (or in your your preferences) whether you have an account or not. Learn more in this Media Viewer Help page.

Letter petitioning WMF to reverse recent decisions

The Wikimedia Foundation recently created a new feature, "superprotect" status. The purpose is to prevent pages from being edited by elected administrators -- but permitting WMF staff to edit them. It has been put to use in only one case: to protect the deployment of the Media Viewer software on German Wikipedia, in defiance of a clear decision of that community to disable the feature by default, unless users decide to enable it.

Meta RfCs on two new global groups

Hello all,

There are currently requests for comment open on meta to create two new global groups. The first is a group for members of the OTRS permissions queue, which would grant them autopatrolled rights on all wikis except those who opt-out. That proposal can be found at m:Requests for comment/Creation of a global OTRS-permissions user group. The second is a group for Wikimedia Commons admins and OTRS agents to view deleted file pages through the 'viewdeletedfile' right on all wikis except those who opt-out. The second proposal can be found at m:Requests for comment/Global file deletion review.

We would like to hear what you think on both proposals. Both are in English; if you wanted to translate them into your native language that would also be appreciated.

It is possible for individual projects to opt-out, so that users in those groups do not have any additional rights on those projects. To do this please start a local discussion, and if there is consensus you can request to opt-out of either or both at m:Stewards' noticeboard.

Global AbuseFilter

Hello,

AbuseFilter is a MediaWiki extension used to detect likely abusive behavior patterns, like pattern vandalism and spam. In 2013, Global AbuseFilters were enabled on a limited set of wikis including Meta-Wiki, MediaWiki.org, Wikispecies and (in early 2014) all the "small wikis". Recently, global abuse filters were enabled on "medium sized wikis" as well. These filters are currently managed by stewards on Meta-Wiki and have shown to be very effective in preventing mass spam attacks across Wikimedia projects. However, there is currently no policy on how the global AbuseFilters will be managed although there are proposals. There is an ongoing request for comment on policy governing the use of the global AbuseFilters. In the meantime, specific wikis can opt out of using the global AbuseFilter. These wikis can simply add a request to this list on Meta-Wiki. More details can be found on this page at Meta-Wiki. If you have any questions, feel free to ask on m:Talk:Global AbuseFilter.

This year the Board and the FDC Staff are looking for a diverse set of candidates from regions and projects that are traditionally under-represented on the board and in the movement as well as candidates with experience in technology, product or finance. To this end they have published letters describing what they think is needed and, recognizing that those who know the community the best are the community themselves, the election committee is accepting nominations for community members you think should run and will reach out to those nominated to provide them with information about the job and the election process.

This year, elections are being held for the following roles:

Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is the decision-making body that is ultimately responsible for the long term sustainability of the Foundation, so we value wide input into its selection. There are three positions being filled. More information about this role can be found at the board elections page.

Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC)
The Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC) makes recommendations about how to allocate Wikimedia movement funds to eligible entities. There are five positions being filled. More information about this role can be found at the FDC elections page.

Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC) Ombud
The FDC Ombud receives complaints and feedback about the FDC process, investigates complaints at the request of the Board of Trustees, and summarizes the investigations and feedback for the Board of Trustees on an annual basis. One position is being filled. More information about this role can be found at the FDC Ombudsperson elections page.

The candidacy submission phase lasts from 00:00 UTC April 20 to 23:59 UTC May 5 for the Board and from 00:00 UTCApril 20 to 23:59 UTC April 30 for the FDC and FDC Ombudsperson. This year, we are accepting both self-nominations and nominations of others. More information on this election and the nomination process can be found on the 2015 Wikimedia elections page on Meta-Wiki.

Wikidata: Access to data from arbitrary items is coming

When using data from Wikidata on Wikipedia and other sister projects, there is currently a limitation in place that hinders some use cases: data can only be accessed from the corresponding item. So, for example, the Wikipedia article about Berlin can only get data from the Wikidata item about Berlin but not from the item about Germany. This had technical reasons. We are now removing this limitation. It is already done for French Wikisource and Dutch Wikipedia. Your project is one of the next ones:

• 18. May: Farsi Wikipedia, English Wikivoyage, Hebrew Wikipedia
• 1. June: Italian Wikipedia, all remaining Wikisource

We hope to have it rolled out nearly everywhere by the end of June 2015.

A note of caution: Please be careful with how many items you use for a single page. If it is too many pages, loading might get slow. We will have to see how the feature behaves in production to see where we need to tweak and how.

Pywikibot compat will no longer be supported - Please migrate to pywikibot core

Sorry for English, I hope someone translates this.
Pywikibot (then "Pywikipediabot") was started back in 2002. In 2007 a new branch (formerly known as "rewrite", now called "core") was started from scratch using the MediaWiki API. The developers of Pywikibot have decided to stop supporting the compat version of Pywikibot due to bad performance and architectural errors that make it hard to update, compared to core. If you are using pywikibot compat it is likely your code will break due to upcoming MediaWiki API changes (e.g. T101524). It is highly recommended you migrate to the core framework. There is a migration guide, and please contact us if you have any problem.

There is an upcoming MediaWiki API breaking change that compat will not be updated for. If your bot's name is in this list, your bot will most likely break.

HTTPS

Apologies for writing in English.

Hi everyone.

Over the last few years, the Wikimedia Foundation has been working towards enabling HTTPS by default for all users, including unregistered ones, for better privacy and security for both readers and editors. This has taken a long time, as there were different aspects to take into account. Our servers haven't been ready to handle it. The Wikimedia Foundation has had to balance sometimes conflicting goals.

Forced HTTPS has just been implemented on all Wikimedia projects. Some of you might already be aware of this, as a few Wikipedia language versions were converted to HTTPS last week and the then affected communities were notified.

Most of Wikimedia editors shouldn't be affected at all. If you edit as registered user, you've probably already had to log in through HTTPS. We'll keep an eye on this to make sure everything is working as it should. Do get in touch with us if you have any problems after this change or contact me if you have any other questions.
